The series includes memoranda issued to the Housing Commissioners by the Housing Department of the Local Government Board (March to June 1919) and of the Ministry of Health (July 1919 to October 1921); and various handbooks and manuals of instructions for the guidance of housing staff. From 16 January 1946, all instructions were issued in one numbered series of Housing Instructions, and the series includes a set covering the period 1946 to 1960. The series also includes an incomplete set of numbered Regional Housing Instructions (1948 to 1953) issued to the twelve regions by the Principal Housing Officers.
