Folio 155: Rochford to Shelburne. Choiseul has received from Guerchy an account of a discussion with Conway about Prussian preparations to attack Danzig. Choiseul was not alarmed about Prussia. Austria had made no request for help from France and the Treaty of 1756was only defensive. Merci endorsed this but was more concerned about Prussian intentions. Rochford believes that Choiseul and Merci suspect that he was aware that Austria did make a request to France [see f.91] but Austrian fears have diminished and France desires to keep the peace.
Date and place: 1767 Mar 11 Paris.
