Administrative / biographical background

The Computer Assisted Learning Programme was an interdepartmental body set up in 1972 as a result of he proposal for a national development programme in computer assisted learning. The Secretary of State for Education and Science was solely responsible for the programme.

The committee comprised representatives from each interested government department and was chaired by Deputy Under-Secretary for Education and Science, Mr. J.A. Hudson.

The terms of reference for the Committee were to advise the Secretary of State on the content and implementation of the development programme in computer assisted learning.

In 1977 the committee was wound up and its functions and responsibilities were passed to the Council for Educational Technology (CET).
