Description

Folio 165: R. Walpole to Earl of Hillsborough. Has received with the greatest astonishment and concern the news of the `late violent and outrageous effects of the late tumultuous assemblies' [i.e. the `Gordon Riots' of June 1780]. Congratulations on British victoryin South Carolina. The Spanish silver brought in a Portuguese warship from Fayal is being sent overland to Madrid.
