Folio 211: R. Walpole to Viscount Weymouth. His evaluation of the conflicting evidence given on both sides regarding the seizure of the Bienfaisant by HMS Levant, with Consul Lempriere's clarification of the exact locality. As Capt. Murray admits he seized the shipwhen she was anchored only 1½ from the shore, he suspects he may have been violating Portuguese territorial waters `though no signal of protection were given from the shore'.
Date and place: 1779 Aug 18 Lisbon.
