DL 45
1640-1882
The records in this series are enclosure awards and extracts of awards, which relate to lands and rights of the Duchy of Lancaster.
The awards and extracts mainly relate to Yorkshire and Lancashire, although Buckinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Monmouthshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire are also represented.
There are only five complete awards in this series (DL 45/1-4 and 11). The rest of the series of made up of extracts.
Most of this series is made up of extracts, which were sent to the Duchy office by the commissioners, as specified under particular enclosure acts, or by the clerks of the peace of the county concerned. The extracts cover only the lands and rights of the Duchy. The few complete awards sometimes include a map.
DL 45/12 was added to the series in 2006.

It is unclear when these records were deposited in the Public Record Office. They are not part of the main deposit of Duchy of Lancaster records in 1868. They were also not listed in the list of 1901 or in Giuseppi's Guide of 1924. (See Lists and indexes, XIV, London, 1901) and M S Giuseppi, A guide to the manuscripts preserved in the Public Record Office , I, London, 1924. It is possible they were amongst a deposit of 1920. It is certain that there were a great many more extracts and awards in the Duchy Office and that there was also an enrolment book for enclosures. This material may still be in the Duchy Office.
