Description

Short Title: Attorney General v Abell.

[Cause code: SCUC-3280].

Documents: answer.

Plaintiffs: Attorney General (Edward Coke) on behalf of Paul Bayning, alderman of London.

Defendants: James Abell, Susan Bayning Henry Chettle [printer and playwright] and Robert Elstracke [engraver ?].

County: London.

Subject: answer of James Abell, a disgruntled servant dismissed from Paul Bayning's household, and accused of conspiracy with Captain Jonas Bodenham (the lover of Susanna Bayning, separated wife of Paul Bayning), Henry Chettle and Robert Elstracke to libel Bayning with an accusation of buggery and murder- which acts Abell denies took place, saying that he was bribed by the other defendants to allege them.
