Statue ‘Achilles’, Hyde Park
The statue representing Achilles, by Richard Westmacott, 1822, was cast in iron from French cannons captured during the Napoleonic Wars. It was funded by subscription; the inscription on the base records that it was erected in commemoration of the Duke of Wellington and his ?brave companions in arms? by ?their countrywomen?.
