Folios 161-162: Thomas Wallbeoff [Regulating Captain] Poole. Responds to the request for information on Joseph Tilly, John Bayley, Joseph Cole and Joseph Waldron Seamen who returned in the last Newfoundland Fleet. Sixteen or 17 vessels arrived together and these men hid until their friends had them appointed as Tide Waiters. The Custom House apparently still want more Tide Waiters, but Wallbeoff suggests using slightly disabled men for this purpose allowing able men to work for HM service. Captain Cook commands the Sea Fencibles with zeal and never takes men fit for service.
Folios 163-164: enclosure with folios 161-162. Mr. [Allen?] Custom House, Poole. 19 December 1803. Information concerning Joseph Tilly, John Bayley, Joseph Cole and Joseph Waldron extra Tide Waiters who were impressed by order of Captain Wallbeoff. Asks that these men are discharged and future directions are issued to impede the Revenue.
Folios 165-166: enclosure with folios 161-162. Messrs Landers and Allen, Custom House Poole. 7 December 1803. Information concerning Joseph Tilly, John Bayley, Joseph Cole and Joseph Waldron. They were impressed and sent to the receiving ship at Spithead. An application has been made for their discharge. They were on duty when impressed and had the certificates of protection. Asks for some means t prevent a similar interruption of the Port business.
Folios 167-168. enclosure with folios 161-162. Unsigned. No date. A template of a certificate issued by the Custom House for the employment of an Extraordinary Tidewaiter and Boatman.
