Folios 184-185: Alexander Skene, HMS Lapwing, North Shields. Acknowledges the letter concerning John Patterson and Nicholas Wheeler. Patterson has been discharged. Wheeler is a man of 26 who admits to using the sea for three years before he was indentured to George Watson. Asks for further directions about indentured servants.
Folio 186. enclosure with folios 184-185. Letter from Thomas Kettlewell, North Shields, to the Admiralty, 24 March 1803. When his apprentice John Patterson was impressed, he produced his indenture and an affidavit and gained his release. He then submitted the indenture and affidavit to the Admiralty to secure a protection, but on arrival at North Shields, Patterson was once again impressed and is aboard HMS Lapwing. Encloses the affidavit he produced, but could not gain his release because his indenture was with the Admiralty. Asks for his discharge.

Folios 188-189: enclosed with folios 184-185. Letter from George Watson, Dockwray Square, North Shields, to the Admiralty, 23 March 1803. Encloses a memorial seeking the discharge of his indentured servant.
Folio 190: Eenclosed with folios 184-185. [Damaged] An Admiralty protection certificate issued to Nicholas Wheeler, July [Year missing].
Folio 191: enclosed with folios 184-185. Memorial from George Watson, Dockwray Square, North Shields, to the Admiralty, 23 March 1803. Seeks the discharge of his indentured servant Nicholas Wheeler, who has been impressed by Captain Alexander Skene of HMS Lapwing. Encloses [not present] his indenture. He has applied both to Captain Skene and to Regulating Captain Mackenzie for his release. Mr Watson's ship, the Partridge, is ready to sail for London. Postscript. He understands Wheeler has volunteered, but as an indentured servant he does not have that right.

Folio 193: enclosed with folios 188-189. Affidavit sworn by John Ross of North Shields, Master of the ship Partridge, before Notary Public William Richardson, 22 March 1803. Swears that Nicholas Wheeler from Newcastle is an indentured servant to George Watson, who owns the Partridge, and that he was carrying an Admiralty protection when impressed.
Folio 194: enclosed with folios 188-189. Affidavit sworn by John Patterson of Beddington, Co Durham, before Justice of the Peace Richard Foley, Shadwell, 15 March 1803. Swears that he has bound himself by indentures to Thomas Kettlewell of North Shields, part owner of the Garland of Newcastle. Second affidavit sworn before the same Justice by Thomas Robinson of Whitby, Master of the Garland, confirming that Patterson has signed indentures.
Folio 195: enclosed with folios 184-185. Affidavit sworn by Thomas Kettlewell of North Shields, before Justice of the Peace Robert [illegible], 22 March 1803. Swears that John Patterson has signed indentures binding himself as an apprentice to Thomas Kettlewell, and that these indentures are with the Court of Admiralty in London.
