Administrative / biographical background

The Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs) prize challenges were delivered by the UK and US governments. The challenges were announced at the first Summit for Democracy in December 2021. The UK challenge was led by the Centre for Data Ethics (CDEI) and Innovate UK. The purpose of the challenge was to drive innovation in PETs and to find solutions for issues in the proposed challenge tracks: transforming financial crime prevention and forecasting to bolster pandemic response capabilities. The winners of the challenge were announced at the second Summit for Democracy in 2023 and each won a sum from a prize pool of £1.3 million.
