Description

Folios: 399-399v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter E. Grant.

First party: Philip Galle of Salfleteby [Saltfleetby].

Second party: Peter, his brother.

Place or subject: The whole land which Philip had in the territories of Manneby [Manby] and Little Carleton [Little Carlton] by the sale of Richard, son of Henry de Tawell [Tathwell], and the whole land which Philip had from Richard, son of Martin de Schitebroch [Skidbrooke] in the territory of Grymholmby [Grimoldby], and from Nicholas, Richard's brother, together with the lands which Andrew Galle bought from Hamelin Coper in the territory of Grimoldby; and the whole land which Andrew bought by charter from Gilbert son of Quenilda and from Robert, his brother, in the territory of Manby, which pertained to Philip, in tofts, crofts, buildings, meadows, pastures, marshes, ways, paths, with all liberties, easement within vills and outside. Philip has also given to Peter in the vill of Salflateby [Saltfleetby] eight acres of land in the marsh of Holm, which he bought from Walter, son of Wygot de Holm, on the south side of his house, and they extend in length from the great bank towards the south as far as Tworedych towards the north, with free entry and exit, containing in width by the measure of twelve feet, through the middle of Walter's toft, just as his charter bears witness, with a wagon and cart and with all his beasts whenever he wishes. He also has given Peter the whole meadow which he had in Newecroft, lying between the land of Anne de Manneby on the west side and the land of Ralph de Jardebi and his fellows on the east side, whose limits abut upon Midelgate towards the north and upon Aadich towards the south, together with all homages and services which pertain to Philip. For his homage and service. To hold to Peter and his heirs of Philip and his heirs freely, quietly, in fee and inheritance. Paying yearly to Philip and his heirs one mark, namely half a mark at Martinmas and half a mark at the feast of St John the Baptist, for all services and secular exactions, saving foreign service as far as it pertains to a twentieth part of one knight's fee.
