Folios 171-172: James Hillyar, Santiago de Chile. Reports having received a request from the government of Chile, and also from the British merchants to promote a reconciliation between the contending parties. The hostile armies were reported to be about thirty miles from each other and he describes how the province of Concepion has suffered.

Folios 175-176: Headed number 35, a printed document titled City of Santiago, 10 May 1814, in Spanish, signed by Manuel Solis, Agustin Diaz and Juan Cristomo de los Alamos.
Folios 177-180: headed Monitor Araucano No 42, 10 May 1814 a printed document in Spanish.
Folios 181-182: headed number 34, Francesco dela Lastra, Santiago, 11 May 1814, letter in Spanish.
Folios 183-184: headed number 33, James Hillyar, Santiago de Chile, 10 May 1814. In response to a letter dated 9 May 1814 he responds to the Cabildo of Chile who expressed gratitude for his services.
Folios 185-186: headed number 32, signed by ten people, a letter in Spanish.
Folios 187-188: headed number 31, signed Bernado Higgins and Juan MacKenna, letter in Spanish.
Folios 189-190: Letter signed by Francesco de la Lastra, 22 May 1814, with a translation. States that the ship Montezuma whose departure Hillyar had demanded as she had overstayed the permitted time, was not an English prize to the Essex but American. The ruling is disputed and he urges the British to proceed with caution.
Folios 191-192: Francesco de la Formas writes in Spanish to James Hillyar.
Folios 193- 196: Two further letters in Spanish.
Folios 197-198: Francesco de la Lastra, Santiago, 21 March 1814, marked Confidential, writes to James Hillyar that he regrets not having met him on a recent visit but asks to be told about preliminary discussions undertaken with the Viceroy of Peru. Again expresses his admiration for the British actions. In response Hillyar states that he encloses documents [not present] showing the sentiments of the viceroy.
Folios 199-200: Santiago, dated 24 February 1814 a note in Spanish to James Hillyar, HMS Phoebe. See folios 207-212.
Folios 201-206: Headed number 3, ‘answer to my letter of 14th’. In Spanish.
Folios 207-212: Translation of a letter from the members of the Junta of Chile, Talca,dated 24 February 1814. Signed Augustien de Eyzaguire, Joseph Ignacio Cienfugos and Jash. Miguet Infanlts. They have been sent a copy of Hillyar’s letter dated 12 February 1814 in which he volunteered to the Viceroy in Lima to attempt to mediate between Chile and Peru. A detailed history of events is provided.
Folios 213-214: James Hillyar, HMS Phoebe, Valparaiso, 5 March 1814 writes to the Junta of Chile, St Iago states that he has only just received a translation, from Mr Crompton of their letter dated 24 February. Thanks them for releasing prisoners in exchange for those he took to them. Apologises that he is not able at present to visit the Viceroy of Peru, nor can he spare any vessels to carry prisoners.
