Description

Folios 194-204. Copy of the note, above referred to, relating to Orange, as delivered by Lord Portland to Monsieur de Pomponne: (1) Request for all proceedings pending before the Paris and Provence Parliaments to be sent back to the Orange Parliament, and for all changes/inovations since 1672 to be set aside; (2) La Dame de Berger, widow of Sieur du Cros, relegated to Bourges by reason of religion, be returned to her native Orange; Oudran and Pascal (who are on the galleys), as well as Andre and Elisee Chambaut (who were transported to America by judgment of the Intendant of Provence) (all by reason of their religion), be freed and returned to Orange; (3) revenues from the Principality of Orange, of which King William was deprived following the acts of the Paris Parliament of 21 August 1684, be returned to him in line with the Treaty of Ryswick (£194,616); (4) tithe rights of which King William was deprived between 1683 and March 1689 to be returned to him (£12,600); (5) interest on (3) and (4) to be paid in line with the Treaty of Ryswick; (6) indemnities due for the demolition of various parts of Orange (citadelle, chateau, fortifications, walls, towers, gates and so on) and consideration for additional costs to the people of Orange (value to be agreed); (7) free reciprocal trade between French subjects and the inhabitants of Orange; (8) equal recognition in France for graduates of the University of Orange, the Orange nobility and those to be enobled by King William; (9) restitution to the subjects of Orange of goods and revenues seized or confiscated in the name of the French King; (10) the toll over the Rhone to which King William is entitled, to be returned to the condition it was in prior to acts of the Council of State in 1665 and 1688 and various other irregularities addressed; (11) for the French King to pass an act of exemption for all rights and taxes on water or land for the materials purchased in his realm and necessary to reestablish a simply city wall and rebuild the temples; (12) commissioners to be appointed to deal with any remaining claims.
