Description

Folios: 65-65v. County of Lancaster. Release.

First party: Hugh, abbot of Kirkestal [Kirkstall] of the Cistercian Order, York diocese.

Second party: Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln and constable of Chester.

Place or subject: Whereas the same abbot quitclaimed to the said earl all the lands, tenements and rents which they held of the said earl and his ancestors in Lorinton, Cliveacher [Cliviger] and Hunnecotes [Huncoat], Lancs, and in la Roundehaye [Roundhay], Secroft [Seacroft] and Shadewell [Shadwell], Yorks, as is more fully contained in letters patent sealed by the common seal of the said abbot and convent, which the same earl has. the said earl acknowledged and granted to pay every single year to the said abbot and convent and their successors forever for the said lands and tenements in Lancashire 50 marks of sterling, and for the said lands and tenements in Yorkshire 30 marks, until the said earl or his heirs happen to die. The earl grants that, if there is any failure in payment of the said 80 marks, then it will be lawful for the said abbot and convent to enter the said lands, tenements and rents and to use the same as freely as they ever were accustomed to use them before the completion of this present deed, until they have been fully satisfied according to the said agreement.
