Folio 240: John Culverhouse, Regulating Captain, Liverpool. Reports that George Aslop [sic] volunteered on 30 March, is 18 years old and fit for the service. Returns his documents.
Folios 241-242: enclosed with folio 240. Letter from Timothy Jay Garstone, Chester, to the Admiralty dated 7 April 1804. An apprentice of his, [George Alsop] has left his service and he subsequently heard that he was aboard the tender at Liverpool. He applied to Captain John Culverhouse for his release, but Captain Culverhouse advised him to apply directly to the Admiralty. Encloses an affidavit and [no longer present] Alsop's indenture and asks for his release. PS Alsop is the only son of a widow who needs his support.
Folio 243: enclosed with folio 240. Affidavit sworn by Timothy Jay Garstone, brush manufacturer of Chester, before Thomas Golightly at Liverpool on 6 April 1804. Swears that an apprentice of his partner, William Howard, named George Alsop, was impressed into the Navy even though he is bound for seven years by an indenture dated 12 January 1802 and has never been to sea.
