The Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC) was an independent organisation established in 1994 by Royal Charter, and was the UK?s strategic science investment agency, which funded research, education and public understanding in four broad areas of science: particle physics; astronomy; cosmology; and space sciences. The PPARC received an annual budget from the Government's Office of Science and Innovation (OSI), part of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). On 1 April 2007 the PPARC and the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC) merged to become the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
