Description

Folios 87-88. Monsieur de Bottel to 'My Lord'. Letter that, in accordance with his orders, he has spoken to the judge who feels that, having given sentence, the matter is out of his hands. The judge does not know how to advise his lordship and says de Bottel will have to ask for a commission for the Commissioners of Prizes even for taxing the vessels or the sum to be given as security. De Bottel has heard that the King is leaving for Spithead tomorrow again delaying his audience with him, which is troublesome as this is about an important affair. He asks whether he may hope for a favourable resolution by the Privy Council tomorrow on a request he shall present through 'Sieur Jacobsen' [Sir Jacob Jacobsen], or if the King would be ready to see him in person tonight. He mentions Sirs Gore [Sir William Gore] and Scawen [Sir William Scawen].
