Description

Prisoner name: William Seamour [or Seymour].

Prisoner age: 25.

Court and date of trial: Essex Lent Assizes held in July 1837.

Crime: Burglary.

Initial sentence: Transportation for life.

Gaoler's report: Character bad.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): Two petitions from prisoner, dated 8 June 1838 and 22 June 1855.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Innocent of crime; good conduct in Colonial Architect Department, Sydney; obtained ticket of leave in 1846; messenger in Sheriff's office for five years and was granted a conditional pardon by His Excellency Sir Charles Fitz Roy; honesty and integrity of character since his arrival in the colony nearly 20 years ago; family dependent on his wages in England; not sufficient grounds for free pardon.
