Petition of Francis Buchanan of Arnprior [Stirlingshire], convicted of High Treason at Carlisle [Cumberland, Jacobite special commission], noting the lack of evidence that he'd engaged in even 'the smallest act of hostility' against the King. Filed with: Folios 92-95. Review of evidence and legal argument as to whether being 'seen in arms' amounts to 'High Treason'. Refers to letters addressed to Sir Thomas Sherisdan [Sheridan], and Lieutenant Colonel McGregor, commander of rebels at Inversnait, near Buchanan's house at Liny, and Arnprior being shot in thigh. Mentions Perth [Perthshire], Glasgow [Lanarkshire], Town and Bridge of Allan [Stirlingshire]. Folio 96. Certificate of William Weir, the Sheriff of Lanerk [Lanark], stating that he's found no evidence Buchanan was in Glasgow during the rebel occupation. Dated at Glasgow.
