Petition of M A Carpentier to the duke of Newcastle on behalf of Francis Stafford, a [Jacobite] prisoner in Newgate [London] and captain at the service of the king of Spain, who was granted a bedroom because of his ill-health. His doctor, de Jernegan [Jerningham], suggests sending him to the country. Reminds the duke that the king of Spain takes great interest in the treatment of his prisoners in England. In French. Dated at London. Filed with:
Folio 11. Affidavit by seven attorneys in the Court of Exchequer in Ireland, in favour of Francis Stafford, formerly of Dublin and Captain of Horse in the Spanish King's service, [now a prisoner in Newgate City of London] stating their doubts that he ever took Holy orders. Signed by Patk [Patrick] McCormick; O'Neil; Jno [John] Campbell; Jno [John] Trevor; Robt [Robert] Murphy; Hn [Henry] Cuming; and John Willock. Dated 2 June 1746.
