Description

Prisoner name: Jeremiah Dawson.

Prisoner age: 24 years.

Prisoner occupation: Plumber and glazier.

Court and date of trial: Lancaster Quarter Sessions, Salford [Lancashire] April 1836.

Crime: Receiving stolen goods - lead and glass, the property of Messers Howarth and Atkinson.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: 'Character good up to the present time. Married 1 child'.

Annotated (Outcome): In the Penitentiary. Nil.

Petitioner(s): 28 inhabitants of Manchester, forwarded in a letter from [Johnathan Law], Manchester. John Dallard, curate, [Janet Gratrisa] and Walter Barton Scott, surgeon from Manchester.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is of previous good character; the prisoner has a family dependent on his support; the sentence is harsh; the prisoner voluntarily surrendered himself to the Police when he heard he was to be charged; the prisoner will become a good member of society on his release; good conduct in prison.

Additional Information: Ordered to Fortitude convict hulk.
