Captured ship: Alston of Charleston (master William Thomson, owner Morris Simmons).
Capture history: an American merchant ship (sloop, 25 tons, 6 men) bound from Charleston, South Carolina to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, laden with rice, rum, salt, tea and coffee for William Seix, merchant in Philadelphia; taken on 8 April 1777 off Cape Hatteras by HMS Galatea (Thomas Jordan commanding), and brought into New York.
