The Vital Statistics Branch dealt with cause of death coding and ad hoc requests from medical researchers, provision of statistics and tables, postcoding of usual residence and coding of occupation, birthplace, institution and legitimacy (births) from various forms and notification of transferred deaths. The Vital Statistics Branch existed through the various divisions without a name change.
