Folios 239-240: John Taylor Michell, Regulating Captain, The Rendezvous, Exeter. Encloses an account from the Governor of Devon Gaol regarding Deserters from HM's Navy. The Captain has seen three prisoners whose statements corroborates with that of James Brown, Governor of the Devon Gaol.

Folios 241-242: enclosure with folios 239-240. Letter dated 7th November 1808 by James Brown, Governor of the Devon Gaol to John Taylor Michell, Regulating Captain. He lists the names and circumstances of the accused men. John Nelson from the Swiftsure who the deserted to Cricket, hired ketch and names other deserters: James Anderson, George Teasbey, John Garrett and Thomas Lewis from the Pompee; William Taylor from the Dreadnought, Charles Deaden from the [Intrepid?], William Smith from the Narcissus, Thomas Manning from the Crane Schooner, Michael Cross Cook, from the Salvadore. These are assumed names used by the crew. John Patterson from the Gibralter and William Miller, Marine, from the Pompee. Thomas Harding claims to be a deserter from the Nemesis at Spithead, went aboard a Merchant ship, impressed at Gravesend and sent onto the Hero, drafted to the Dragon at Spithead, on the Liberty at Plymouth then went on the Resolution, then onto the Betsy both hired craft. William Hilton says he is a deserter from the Hindostan, then went on the Crickett. Wilson says the Captain of the Crickett hides deserters under the Boatswain's or the Steward's Cabins when a Man of War boat comes searching. The Ship and launch are at [Divels?] Point where the Crimp House is situated. The deserters are paid 36 to 40 shillings per month because of the protection the Captain gives them.
