Folios 465-466: John Gourly, Regulating Captain, Aberdeen. States the case of Alexander Valentine, aged 20, Able Seaman, impressed by Lieutenant Guison on 23 October 1813 and sent from Aberdeen with other newly raised men to Leith on 1 November 1813. Advises that when he regulated Valentine he did not believe him to be of the age requisite for a Mate and that Valentine's father produced the enclosed certificate No 1 which he believes to have been altered. As a consequence explains he wrote to the Parish Church for correct information and received the enclosed certificate No 2. Advises that he has also received information from a friend of Alexander Valentine that suggest that the information contained in the enclosed petition from Valentine's father is not correct.
