Folios 437-438: Francis Holmes Coffin, HMS Arethusa, Havanna. Is sending the correspondence between the Governor of Cuba and himself about HMS Arethusa supplying amunition to the insurgents and violating neutrality.

Folios 439-440: enclosure with folios 437-438. Francis Holmes Coffin. Is sending a letter with accusations of invalidating the neutrality of Havanna and his replies.

Folios 441-442: enclosure with folios 437-438. Letter dated 6 January 1813 by Francis Holmes Coffin, HMS Arethusa, Island of Sacrifice. A man from Vera Cruz, who escaped from the Medellin, says that someone from HMS Arethusa exchanged a box of amunition for some cattle from the insurgents. He has found no proof of this and anyway the English character means that no one in the Navy would consider helping the enemy. He has repeatedly offered to help the Governmenmt in Vera Cruz. The cattle were paid for in dollars but three men deserted at Albardo and stole a musket and cartouch box which may how the report originated.

Folios 443-444: enclosure with folios 437-438. Translation. Jose de Guevedo. A man escaped from Medellin and said there was a report that men under a flag of truce had been given a box of amunition when on board HMS Arethusa. The discipline of the Navy is so strong. He is conveying the report to his superiors so it can be investigated.

Folios 449- 452: enclosure with folios 437-438. Documents in Spanish with translations. Juan Ruiz de Aphodaca, Havanna. He had a report from the Commander of the Morro Castle that HMS Variable had slipped her anchor to pursue an American ship. The Adjutant informed Mr Yates, the Captain of the brig that he should not since it violated the neutrality between Spain and the USA. As soon as the brig was outside the port, she hauled down the Englsih colours and raised Spanish ones in order to capture the American ship which he then bought into the port. Mr Yates said he acted under orders from HMS Arethusa. The American brig was here with rightful merchandise and he is objecting to the operation and demands an explanation although he desires the matter is settled amicably before he informs his government and the Spanish Embassy in London.

Folios 453-454: enclosure with folios 437-438. Letter dated 13 April 1813 by Francis Holmes Coffin, HMS Arethusa, Havanna. He is hurt that he is accused of violating neutrality of the port. Lieutenant Yates did go aboard the ship and was going to send her to Providence but finding that she only had one small cask of water aboard, brought her into Havanna so he has not broken neutrality.

Folios 455-456: enclosure with folios 437-438. Letter dated 11 April 1813 by R.B.Yates, Lieutenant, HMS Venerable. He attacked the American brig which had a cargo of sugar and coffee and was going to take her to New Providence but found she was short of water so returned to Havannabut was never near the forts of Havanna at any time.
