Folios 162-163: James Bissett, HMS Dannemark, Spithead. Reports his arrival with HMS Fisgard from a cruise between Madeira and the Western Islands. He ordered HMS Primrose by telegraph to take possession of a sloop sighted off the Eddystone Light which appeared to have been taken by a French privateer. On March 21, 1811, off Madeira he spoke HMS Merope and Commander Edward Flin informed him he was searching for HMS Bulwark as he had despatches for her Captain. Commander Flin had received information about a French privateer, the Dilligentte, which had captured several vessels to the West of Madeira, but he had been unable to find her. On March 30 Captain Bissett spoke HMS Menelaus and told Captain Peter Parker about the privateer. He encloses [no longer present] a journal of his proceedings since leaving Lisbon, a copy of his orders from Rear Admiral Sir Joseph Sydney York and Commander Flin's letter about the privateer.
Folio 164: enclosed with folio 162. Copy of orders dated 7 May 1811 from Rear Admiral Sir Joseph Sydney York, HMS Vengeur, the River Tagus, to Captain James Bissett, HMS Dannemark. Captain Bissett is ordered to take HMS Fisgard and HMS Primrose to cruise between Madeira and the Western Islands in order to intercept any enemy frigates returning from the Indian Seas, and then to proceed to Spithead.
Folios 165-167: enclosed with folios 162-163. Letter dated 22 March 1811 by Commander Edward Flin, HMS Merope, off Madeira to Captain James Bissett, HMS Dannemark. He has received information from Mr Piech, Consul at Maderia, of a French privateer called La Dilligence which in two months has captured 11 vessels to the Westward of the island, two of which have since been recaptured by HMS Narcissus, Captain Aloysius, the English merchant ship Elling Grove and a Spanish brig. Prizes taken by the privateer, according to the crew of the Elling Grove, are sent into the port of [illegible].
