Advising that he has been told by the master of one of the rice ships from Bengal, the Union, that the ship was in such distress from the loss of many crew that he feels unable to navigate her to England. As she is a very valuable ship, laden with rice and 'piece goods' Bowen has lent him 6 good men and a petty officer: Mr Samuel Walters, midshipman, Richard Boden, George Wright, Peter Banfield, Philip Eubart, John Wooldridge, and Richard Gilbert. Postscript notes that the Union reported the arrival of the Georgiana St Helena packet at St Helena, which had spoke HMS Eurydice near the Cape, and had been informed of the Peace.
