Medical and surgical journal of HMS Investigator, for 23 October 1864 to 31 December 1865 by Richard J Sweetman, Assistant Surgeon, during which time the said ship was employed in the lagoons of Lagos and the Niger.
[Note: ADM 101/134, 1A-1B are produced as a single document: order as ADM 101/134].
Folio 1: Cover sheet with document reference.
Folios 2-4: William Fairclough, aged 23, corporal Royal Marine Light Infantry; case number 71; disease or hurt, climatic fever. Put on sick list, 19 February 1865 at Lagos. Died 3 March 1865.
Folios 5-6: John G G McHardy, aged 29, Lieutenant Commander; case number 141; disease or hurt, colica. Put on sick list, 14 September 1865 at Lagos. Died 19 September 1865.
Folios 7-8: Jack Samson, aged 23, African; case number 210; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 24 June 1865 at Lagos. Died 4 July 1865.
Folios 9-10: Thomas Randel, aged 20, Ordinary Seaman; case number 183; disease or hurt, climatic fever. Put on sick list, 11 May 1865 at Lagos. Discharged 21 May 1865.
Folios 10-11: Sam Lewis, aged 27, Krooman; case number 127; disease or hurt, dysentery. Put on sick list, 18 November 1865 at Lagos. Discharged 2 December 1865.
Folios 11-12: Melville Maxwell, aged 28, Assistant Paymaster; case number 157; disease or hurt, syphilis. Put on sick list, 29 June 1865 at Lagos. Discharged 30 July 1865.
Folio 12: Table 1: A nosological synopsis of the sick book kept during the period of the journal.
