This Soviet firm with offices and depots throughout Britain was believed in the 1920s to be a cover for Soviet subversion and intelligence gathering, and to provide links with underground elements of the British Communist Party. MI5 also suspected that its facilities and staff would be used, or at least had the potential to be used, to bring about acts of sabotage in the event of hostilities with the USSR
