RAF Y France 1939-1940. AASF [Advanced Air Strike Force] Y Section Organisation and Establishment; I de M [Isle de Sainte Marguerite] Organisation and Establishment; Liaison - Greece (RAF Y Unit). Notes on histories of RAF Y units. AASF Y Section formed Cheadle September 1939; arrived Fismes (Marne) 17/9/1939 with intercept, crypt and WTI (analysis) in support of AASF (AOC AVM Playfair) and D/F stations at Breteuil (south of Amiens) and Bar-sur-Seine; 20/1/1940 at Lira; May 1940 50 miles south of Paris; 3/6/1940 72 officers and men to RAF Cheadle. I de M intercept unit (establishment 27) set up on island off south coast of France near Cannes on 19/11/1939 in support of RAF intercept station on Malta; 12/7/1940 evacuation reported and intended passage home via Marseilles and Gibraltar. Correspondence on proposal to send an RAF Y unit to Greece.
