Papers relating to the French and Polish contribution to the solution of ENIGMA, particularly as revealed by General Gustave BERTRAND in his book, ENIGMA, and S A MAYER of the Polish Intelligence Service. This comprises a number of papers mostly concerning BERTRAND's book detailing the French (and Polish) contribution to the breaking of ENIGMA. Comments on the book, or the story itself, are provided by the pre-war head of the Polish Intelligence Service, members of GC & CS, the National Security Agency and the SIS. Folio 31: Views on ENIGMA expressed by Commander DUNDERDALE, SIS. Folio 34: Brig TILTMAN's comments on BERTRAND's book plus review by National Security Agency. Folio 34: Review of BERTRAND's book by J E S COOPER, of GC & CS. Folio 39: Account by S A MAYER, pre-war head of Polish Intelligence, of Polish attack on ENIGMA cypher machine. Folio 42: Covering letter to Cabinet Office, enclosing above documents for consideration by HINSLEY for his official history of 'British Intelligence in the Second World War'.
