Folio 27: January 1841, anchored in Porto Rico on the 3 January, sailed on the 6 January to St Thomas. The ship reached Barbados on the 5 February 1841. Towards the end of January a Spanish slaver El Segundo Rosario was captured on 27 January with 288 ‘negros’ – off Sa[nta] Cruz, with 4 of the slaves ill of fever & some of the crew slightly. sent her [El Segundo Rosario] to Havanna. Cases 244 – numbers in journal. Numbers 57A, B and C - being passengers. One having two entries in sick book. Total 248 entries in sick book in the year.

Folio 28: The Surgeon notes that no man received a pension certificate during the period of this journal. Signed: Patrick Martyn, Surgeon.
Folios 28-29: Surgeon's general remarks. No fever prevailed nor any disease of contagion or malignancy…though small pox occurred in the 76th Regiment in Bermuda in July, a part of which the ship was ordered to Barbados to transport - vaccine matter was obtained with difficulty. The number of entries on the sick list during the year 246 of these there 2 deaths, 9 invalided, 8 sent to hospital, 250 discharged to duty, 17 remained on the sick liSt Also includes remarks on the case of Captain Lushington [folio 29].
