Other Data: war diary 25/8/1916 - reported missing since 2200 night of 24/8/1916 - search made, but without trace.
Report on disappearance put together by CO, Major Henriques: He visited his two guns on C2 HORSESHOE on the night of 24/25 August at 22.00 hours as was his usual custom. He asked the NCO in charge, Sgt White, if everything was alright and stood talking to the Sgt for a short time and they then walked together for a short distance in the direction of the communication trench leading to Terraces. He then said goodnight to sgt White and then said he was going to join 2/Lt May (OC the section)at the dump C3. He was never seen or heard of after this. Search was made everywhere possible both by the Gloucester Regt and by 78 MG Coy men, with no result,also Kidney Hill was searched.;Other Notes: MACALISTER, Second Lieutenant, GEORGE HOWDEN, 5th Bn. Royal Scots Fusiliers attd. 78th Bn Machine Gun Corps (Inf). 24th August 1916. Age 25. Son of the late Rev. George Macalister, D.D., of Jaipur, Rajputana, India, and of the late Mary Murray Procter, his wife. Doiran Memorial, Greece.
