Richd. How II (Aspley) to J. Howlett. Agrees with the argument Howlett has put forward in his book that the true cause of the miseries of the poor is the proportion between the price of labour & the price of provisions. In Aspley the pay of labourers has been about 5s. per week for about a century, but has risen to 6s. within last 30 years. How intends to raise the pay of the two or three labourers he employs to 7s. "We have lately set up in this parish two Sunday Schools (for Boys & Girls) by which it is hoped the youth of the lowest class may be brought into some order ..."
