Black and white photographs of the reconstruction of the Surat Bridge, in Siam, in Thailand, as part of contract No. 781, to replace the Surat, Rama VI and the Bandara Bridges for the Royal State Railways of Thailand. The images include:
A set of black and white photographs of construction work on building the new bridge, that are numbered 1 - 27 and have typed captions,
A selection of photographs showing the old bomb-damaged Surat Bridge, and of the site around the bridge, including a local village, numbered 18 - 30, with hand-written captions,
A selection of photographs showing work on the new bridge, and of the bridge in use by a steam train,
Also contained are two pages of photographs of the damaged Surat Bridge, with one side of twelve images captioned,
A large image of the damaged Surat Bridge,
Two copies of an image of the completed Surat Bridge in one sleeve, one with its caption visible,
Numerous uncaptioned large photographs of construction work and of the completion of the bridge,
A pair of photographs showing some men from The Royal State Railways of Thailand standing on two different spans of the Surat Bridge, at the Cleveland Bridge Works, Darlington, England, before they were transported to be erected in Thailand. Both of these images are the copyright of W. Richardson, Darlington.
Included are a pair of documents on contract No. 781 for the Royal State Railways of Thailand. They include:
A brief two page overview on the contract to replace the Surat, Rama VI, and the Bandara Bridges,
A letter sent to Mr. L. Verrill, of Redpath Dorman Long Ltd., from B. P. Wex of Freeman Fox & Partners, to thank them for a group of negatives and photographs of the three bridges in the contract that were sent to them.Also included are a group of photographic negatives of the images of the Surat Bridge reconstruction.
