Title
Villiers v. Moyer re. Pitsey Manor Papers in Case.
Date
undated (c.1651?)
Description

The Answer of Robert Villiers, Esq., defendant. to the Bill of Complaint of Samwell Moyer, Esq., complaintant.

Defendant agrees that last July there was an agreement for the purchase of the Manor & lands mentioned in the Bill by complainant for £2,030. Conveyance has been made but only £500 paid so far.

Defendant denies that premises are charged with anything else except a Statute Staple of £6,000 penalty by defendant, to Thomas Foot, Alderman of the City of London, about 4 years ago, which by agreement of (1) and (2) is to be cancelled on (2) paying the £1,530.

One other statute staple of £600 from defendant to Henry Henne or Hene in May, 1650 for payment of £4,000. One recognizance in Chancery from defendant to Mr. Hales about 6 months ago of £600 for payment of £300. But these two not charged on Pitsea so far as defendant knows - must refer to conveyance. Defendant also had a judgement against him about a month ago in the Court of Upper Bench, to pay Mr. Wolley £200 for £100 debt. And judgement in 1648 in Court of Exchequer to Thomas Yates,B.D. of £5,000 for the suffering of a Common Recovery of certain lands in Norfolk. Yates will be satisfied of this debt on the payment of the £1,530.

Defendant prays for case to be dismissed with costs & charges to him etc.
