Leonard Vincent Charles Crompton
Born 29/9/95 in North Ashton and educated at Ashton-in-Makerfield
Grammar School. Son of Mr T Crompton of the White House North Ashton,
Wigan. Enlisted Liverpool 7/11/14 as No 22042 in 20 KLR. Height 5' 7",
weight 133lbs, occupation bank clerk, complexion fresh, eyes grey, hair
dark brown, religion CofE. He trained as a Lewis gunner. To France
7/11/15. On 2/6/16 he was awarded 7 days Field Punishment No 2 by the CO
for being absent from parade. On leave to UK 4-14/1/17 His commission
application is dated 24/3/17. Admitted Field Ambulance 21/5/15
(Inflammation of connective tissue foot) and transferred to 6 Stationary
Hospital the same day. Admitted 6 Canadian General Hospital (Le Treport)
22/5/17. Joined 24 Infantry Base Depot (Etaples) 3/6/17. Rejoined
Battalion 11/6/17. Appointed unpaid L/Cpl 16/6/17 and paid L/Cpl 3/8/17.
To England for a commission 27/8/17. On 5/10/17 he was admitted to No 21
Officer Cadet Battalion Crookham. Discharged to a commission as Temp 2nd
Lieutenant in MGC 27/2/18. To France 27/7/18. Joined Base Depot at
Camiers 28/7/18. Joined 12 Battalion MGC in the Field 12/8/18. He was
tried by FGCM in the Field on 28/11/18 on two charges of 'Conduct to the
prejudice of good order and military discipline'. He was found guilt of
the first but not guilt of the second charge - he was reprimanded. On
leave to UK 25/12/18 to 22/1/19. His leave was extended and he was
released from military duty 21/2/19. In March 1919 he was living at The
Cross House, Ashton-in-Makerfield. Relinquished commission 1/9/21.
