Title
F. Chambre to Richard Hill.
Date
Petton, 24th September, 1725
Description

He is much pressed by Mr. Leighton Owen Griffith of Braggington to acquaint Hill that Griffith wishes to marry Chambre's sister Nancy Hill. His estate is £430 consisting of a large farm with a good house at Bragington and £3,000 worth of timber ready for axe, and all out of debt "all woh I beleive to be true having been for many years concerned in his affairs. He is withall a Gentleman of good learning, honest and very sober, and of a good family". He thinks Hill's provisions for the rest of Nancy's sisters too little. The lower pool is now shut and finished and looks well to the house: the upper pool needs a week's work with the team and 4 men, being in some disorder, if Hill will consent after so much money has been imprudently spent by Joseph about it. It should be done after the planting of their firs and orchard has been done, the trees for the purpose being at Hawkstone, with as many elms as will supply the miscarriage of last years planting in the Western Avenue.

He encloses a letter from Mr. Jackson, Lord Kilmorrey's agent, touching his lordship's mortgage debt of £600 and the manner of Hill's assigning for his nephew thereupon, and a copy of his answer. The mortgage was made to Mr. John Hill and his heirs - the legal interest is now therefore vested in Mr. Rowland Hill as his father's heir or in his daughter as devisees under Mr. John Hill's will. Hill is to act as he thinks fit, but it is uncommon for trustees (he is executor of John Hill's will) to come into such measures, especially when the orphans interest may be lessened to under 5 upon a new lending of the money.

He will send some deeds by Mr. Dicken - they are to be executed by Hill. A Counterpart of Mr. Sherrards mortgage for £1,600 and Hill's declaration of trust, touching that and Mr. Davies's mortgages, referred to in Hill's account with his nieces, and deeds of lease and release by which Hill is to assign to Chambre's brother Harris and himself the mortgage sister Waringe has aid off. Harris and Chambre are to declare themselves trustees for her. He asks for the deeds to be returned by Mr. Dicken.
