Description

This book is not a contemporary court record but a compilation made (in 1682 if the cover is to be believed) as a precedent book. It comprises the following:

fos 1-3v: '1 liber'. Extracts of acts in the archdeacon's court at Buckden before Master John Manton, surrogate, 1671 relating to a tithe cause brought by the Bishop of Chichester and Regius Professor v. William Blott of Somersham, continued (fo 3v) in the Court of Arches.

fos 4-22v: blank

fos 23-41: '2 liber' Precedents, comprising the following

fo. 23. Libel and response in Margery Carter alias Clerke wife of John Clarke of Brington v. Elenor Carter of Great Staughton for legacy 9 April 1679

fo 24v. Libel and interrogatories in Margaret Ginn v. Elizabeth Day of Stilton for defamation. n.d.

fo 26v. Libel in Oliver Pocklington rector of Brington with Bythorn and Old Weston v. George Jelles of Old Weston, with schedule of tithes. A note at the foot of fo.28 that the statute of 2 & 3 Edward VI must be recited in a libel of precarial tithes confirms the purpose of the book. c1676
