Description (What the record is about)
-
The testator gives his wife Hannah £100, his son Richard £200 and to each of his daughters (Jane (wife of Thomas) Reader and Sarah) £400, but Sarah's share should be invested by trustees if the testator die before her majority and the proceeds pass to her issue (going into the widower's hands, or the trustees' if he die, if the children then shall be of age) - if Sarah dies unmarried and childless, her portion will be shared equally between the testator's other children including Elizabeth (wife of John) Hollick; his son William [II] will succeed to the testator's tenancy; household goods will be equally divided between Hannah, William [II] and Richard, although the first-named will choose her own one-third - those three will accept residuary personalty for investment and the dividends be paid to Hannah during her widowhood; the testator confers a £20 p.a. rentcharge upon his wife out of two closes (8¼a.) at Longford which the testator occupies and which he bought from the late Mr. John Ryley, subject to which the land descends to William [II] [but the draft then says that at the testator's death Richard will inherit it]; to trustees are consigned five Longford messuages (inhabited by William Reader, William Jackson, John Cramp, Joseph Coates and (lately) Willoughby Wilson) and two Alderman's Green tenements (let to Joseph Moore and -- Jones), they paying the rents successively to Hannah for life, Jane Reader, her issue equally with right of survivorship, and the testator's other children; mortgaged property will be accepted by the testator's sons; after Hannah's death, from the residuary personalty the trustees will invest £1,100, whence £500 will accrue for Elizabeth Hollick and the rest for Sarah Masser, with successive remainders to their respective children and all the testator's own surviving issue, whilst any other personalty will be shared equally by William [II], J. Reader and Sarah; the executrix and executors are Hannah during her widowhood, Richard and William, who are appointed Sarah's guardians.
